How Can I Save Time When Entering Formulas?
Tip #1
When entering a formula, you don’t always need to spell out the entire function.
You only need to spell the function until it becomes the only one on the list Excel automatically provides to help guide you. E.g., below are two scenarios – the first when you type in just ‘V’, and the second when you type in ‘VL’. You can see that adding the ‘L’ narrows it down to only VLOOKUP, at which point you can just hit Tab and enter your parameters (Tab will automatically put in the first parenthesis for you).
Tip #2
Once you’ve entered your parameters (completed your formula) you don’t have to type the closing parenthesis – just hit Enter and Excel will enter it for you automatically. You can do this with Excel formulas in general, not just VLOOKUP.
Combining these two methods will save you keystrokes. And every keystroke counts!
